Applying interprofessional simulation to improve knowledge, attitude and practice in hospital- acquired infection control among health professionals

Abstract Background This study aimed at determining the effectiveness of an innovative approach using interprofessional simulation scenarios (IPSS) in improving knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) hospital-acquired infection control (HAIC) among health professionals. Methods The interventional was conducted a teaching hospital Malaysia. Purposive sampling used to recruit participants from surgical, intensive care, other units. Thirty-six professionals experimental forty group completed study. All subjects participated interactive lecture demonstrated four IPSS on HAIC i.e. (i) taking blood specimen (ii) bedsore dressing (iii) collecting sputum for acid-fast bacilli (iv) intermittent bladder catheterization. Each team consisted doctor nurse. A self-administered questionnaire KAP by respondents during pre-, immediately and, post-intervention. An independent t-test measure significance between group. Results mean scores increased following intervention. Significant differences were seen two groups post-intervention (p < 0.05). Overall, procedures as surrogates, learning intervention showed improvement structured instructions. clearly shows its relevance outcomes. Conclusions Well-designed simulated can be effective skills training
